Explore the majestic beauty of remote Victoria on this horseback tour of the Bogong High Plains.
This tour is recommended for riders who are comfortable at trot, canter and gallop and can use leg aids to control a horse. However if you are reasonably fit and keen to try, rides can be tailor made to suit the less experienced rider.
Your experience will begin with meet and greet your host, riding crew and the horses. Settle in with a drink on the deck overlooking the valley where horses graze amongst wild kangaroos. During dinner guides will discuss with you the horses and the days riding to follow.
Day 2 will begin with a hearty breakfast, and once you have packed your gear we will head off for the day. You will choose you horse at the yards then head off. The ride will pass through forests and clear mountain rivers before selecting a scenic spot for lunch. The day will end with camp alongside Big River and dinner under the stars.
On day 3 we will head up from the valley floor following a track cut into the side of a mountain about 140 years ago. Lunch will be held at Kelly's Hut, a historic building used not so long ago by the Kelly family when they took their cattle up on to the high plains for summer grazing.
Expect to see some superb views as the group rises out of the forest onto snow plains. Once above the tree line you will be on top of the Bogong High Plains. The afternoon ride will go past Wallace's Hut and Mt Cope Hut before heading to Langfords West camp.
The final day of riding will take place out across the Bogong High Plains where brumbies can usually be seen. The ride will go to some of the cattleman's huts, follow along small mountain streams, rise to the top of ridges for great views, visit hidden waterfalls and ride amongst wildflowers. Participants then return back to camp for a sumptuous camp fire dinner.
