Barron River Rafting with Ferry Cruise to Fitzroy Island

For an action packed afternoon of fun and adventure, try rafting on the thrilling Barron River. Located only 20 minutes from Cairns you'll have plenty of time to enjoy other activities on the same day. Your adventure will not end at Barron River, as on Day 2 you will be taken on a ferry cruise to Fitzroy Island where you will have the freedom to explorer the beautiful island.

The rapids on the Barron River are of grade 2-3 which means they are simple technical rapids with a need to manoeuvre the raft, which results in great rafting for first timers.

Please use this as a guide when choosing your level of adrenaline rush, but remember that experience is NOT necessary; in fact most of our clients have never been rafting before.

On your second day take the Fitzroy Flyer catamaran which departs from A Finger at the Marlin Marina (Check in at the Reef Fleet Terminal) and takes just 45 minutes via the coastline, to arrive on beautiful Fitzroy Island.

Fitzroy Island is one of 600 "Continental" or "High" islands on the Great Barrier Reef which means it used to be part of the mainland before rising waters separated this tranquil paradise. Over time a fringing coral reef surrounded the island, providing a sheltered home for a variety of fish and coral species.

The ferry cruise to the island by fast catamaran takes only 45 minutes, keeping to the calm waters of the coastline and passing spectacular scenery along the way.

While you are visiting Fitzroy Island you can choose to take part in a number of activities that are available on the island. Try to fit in as much as you can before you have to return back to the mainland at 4.30 pm.

Snorkelling and kayaking equipment can easily be hired along the beach, or choose to wander around the island through one of the National Park walking tracks.
