The township of Forbes is situated on the Newell Highway, on the banks of the Lachlan River in the heart of the Lachlan Valley, New South Wales.
Bushranger Ben Hall and Kate Kelly (Ned's sister) are both buried here and Frank Gardiner staged New South Wales's only gold escort robbery east of the town. Today, Forbes is a prosperous farming town.
Forbes is recognised for the many Victorian buildings that were built on the back of the gold boom in the late 1800's. The town has been well recognised nationally for its tidy appearance including well-tendered parks and gardens.
