LAST UPDATED : 03 May 2008 at 19:03:14 I'd arrived in Korea the night before. Had been met at the airport by my new employer who drove us to the town I'd be living and working in and dropped my off at my new apartment with a 'see you on Monday'.
No food, no language skills, no idea where to go for food, not sure if I could drink the tap water, I decided to go to bed (good thing I'd brought a sleeping bag!).
Luckily, I did have Korean currency so first thing next morning - parched - I located the neighbourhood grocery and, within it, what looked like a litre bottle of water. The label depicted dew drops glistening on a green leaf. I quickly paid and took off home to chug from the bottle (no cups).
Chug I did but to my surprise and dismay, it turned out to be soju, a clear Korean spirit - what a shock! Splutter..spurt..what the hey?!! Pulled out my dictionary and realised my mistake! The shop owners must have been wondering about the new English teacher buying soju in the morning! REPLY | PRINT | EDIT
