Funny Stories - Rhino attack - more freaky than funny!!

After hiking in the Himalayas we travelled to Chitwan Jungle on the border of India. At dusk a group of us ventured into the jungle with our guide who was on 'work experience' from Kathmandu, replacing the regular guide for just that evening. His inexperience led us into the path of a mother rhino separated from her baby, & his short stature prevented him from seeing this dilemma. The huge & distraught rhino charged our group, causing my husband to break the minute mile as he fled to the saftey of a lookout tower & the rest of us to gather in a long line behind the nearest tree, grasping each other's waists in single file & moving from side to side as the rhino shortsightedly attacked & attacked the tree trunk, only metres from us. It was such a terrifying experience that one traveller actually went to the toilet (to put it nicely) in his pants & a apair of Swedish girls flew out the next day. The imediate problem was to get back to camp as darkness fell, avoiding other rhinos & facing the prospect of encountering tigers which emerged at night.
Needless to say we survived the experience & returned to the jungle the following day on elephant back, witnessing amazing wildlife from relative safety. It was only days later that we discovered that an American wildlife expert had been killed in a similar attack in the same location just the week before, so we considerd ourselves most fortunate to get out alive.
