To set the scene... it was the end of a magical two weeks in Borneo. We had trekked through the jungle, climbed a mountain and spent the last few days sunning ourselves on a beautiful island. We boarded the plane for the three and a half hour flight to Kuala Lumpur... seemed a bit strange as it only took two hours to fly out, but that's what the itinary said.
A mere 20 minutes after take off as we are happily reliving the holiday we notice the flaps go up. Uh-oh... that's not good. The plane is starting to go down. Looking out the window all we can see is ocean. The descent speeds up as we hurriedly remind ourselves of the brace position.
10 minutes later we were safely on the ground in Labuan (an island off the coast of Borneo) for a short stop before continuing onto KL. We extracted our hands from each other where they had been glued in fear, and had a little laugh at our paranoia. And this is why should always confirm with your travel agent if it's a direct flight!!
