Hi Guys, we are planning a family trip around Australia next year and are flexible with the times we go. We have an on road caravan so we need to be cautious about weather conditions.
We will be starting from Melbourne and are looking for advice on the best time to leave heading across to Perth then up the west coast to Darwin.
The advice I’m look to get on this forum for example is "Don’t start to head up the west coast until at least April 1st as the wet season would have past" or “Don’t get to the Northern Territory before June as the weather is unpleasant".
Any information that travellers can share like the above examples would be beneficial.
Thanks you in advance.
Shane

Hi, We are doing the same sometime next year and would appreciate to get any tips you may get from others who have done this before. We are planning on heading north and going around clockwise for 4-5 months.
Wouldnt mind knowing how much it would cost. We are in a 2006 Landcruiser and towing a caravan. Thanks heaps Donna

We are planning to do a 6 month trip starting July 2012 with two kids, leaving from Brisbane, going anti-clockwise. The main advice I have read off all the googling I've done is to make sure you do the top end during Winter and be down south by Summer. October is the start of the hot and wet season up north, so we're planning to be travelling South from Broome by late September.
Everything I've read also suggests going anti-clockwise so you're travelling with (not against) the prevailing winds.
