I came to griffith with the promise of work from a local farmer. He guaranteed me and two others work and accomodation only to discover when we arrived here there was no work, only accomodation i.e. his friends house was available. We had travelled from Sydney to be here so had to pay the rent for somewhere to stay or chose the alternative..stay homeless. We have been paying his friend weekly rents plus the obligitary bond since we arrived here with still no sign of work from this man despite several calls from ourselves. We have tried all the local working hostels and local job agencies daily with no result whatsoever. I would like to post a warning to all travellers willing to work and in need of money with intentions of coming to Griffith to pick fruit/farm labour. AVOID GRIFFITH LIKE THE PLAGUE. NO WORK. NO MONEY. WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY. We have well and trully been duped by this lovely farmer but his friend is reaping the benefits of our unfortunate situation. Sadly were still stuck here waiting for work.

That is a really sad situation for you... Unlike your experience, We have had a FANTASTIC experience here in Griffith. The town is crap itself but if you are here to make some money, it's a good place to be. The first time we arrived in Griffith we had to leave because there was no work and the kind hostel Manager at The Globe Backpackers was the only one who actually told us the truth, everyone else was just leading us on. We stayed in contact with The Globe and eventually they had some positions for us...Work was crap but money was GREAT...We stayed for nearly 6 months...So my advice is, do your research...Don't just turn up and expect the world!!
