Set on 6 acres of natural bushland, Melaleuca is an architecturally designed, owner operated eco-friendly purpose built backpackers retreat. Accommodation types include camping, shaded bays for Kombi vans, dormitory beds and cabins. All guests have full use of our beautiful facilities.
Closest hostel to the beach in Port Stephens, Melaleuca is set on 6 acres of natural bush land, is an eco-friendly peaceful retreat and just a 5 minute stroll to beautiful One Mile Beach and Tomaree National Park.
Our purpose built accommodation is created using wood and glass to emphasize light, space and harmony with nature.
Melaleuca is home to a huge variety of native wildlife, including Koalas.
Free use of all facilities including BBQ's, hot showers and bicycles.
Laundry available. We guarantee the cheapest rates for local activities, with our complimentary booking service.
Accommodation varies from camping and Kombi vans sites to our tree-house style cabins and western red cedar 6 share dorm rooms.
All rooms contain a fridge/freezer, fan and heater.
With the Tent Hire option (price $35.00 per person per night) we supply raised beds with sheets/pillows/blankets and duvet. We also provide a table and chairs with lanterns.
The view is a garden view and the bed configuration is either double or twin.

DRIVING FROM SYDNEY - Take the F3 Freeway from Sydney to the end (past the Newcastle exits) and turn RIGHT at the roundabout following the signs to Hexham and Pacific Hwy.
Merge with the New England Hwy and follow the signs to Taree & Pacific Hwy that will take you over the Hexham Bridge.
Turn RIGHT at the first road signposted Tomago and Williamtown (Tomago Road) Follow this road to the end.
Turn LEFT at roundabout onto Nelson Bay Rd.
Follow Nelson Bay Rd until you reaches Anna Bay and at the roundabout to the Anna Bay shops turns RIGHT into Gan Gan Rd.
Follow Gan Gan Rd to One Mile Beach (approx. 3 kilometers) and turn LEFT AT NEW ROUNDABOUT INTO KOALA PLACE.
OUR CAR PARK IS FIRST DRIVEWAY ON THE RIGHT.
COACH - A coach service departs Eddy Ave, Central Station Sydney daily at 2.00pm for Port Stephens.
Ask the Port Stephens coach driver to drop you at our door; the stop is Melaleuca Backpackers at One Mile Beach.
TRAIN - Trains are available to Newcastle Station. Buses connect with the trains for transfers to Port Stephens from Stand 3 at the station. Ask the Port Stephens coach driver to drop you at our door; the stop is Melaleuca at One Mile Beach.
