Kuranda

Kuranda is a pretty town set amongst the glorious mountains of the Atherton Tablelands, and famous for its wonderful markets. There is spectacular rainforest surrounding the town, with various walking tracks.

If you would like to experience one of the Kuranda Markets then head to Kuranda on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday or Sunday. There are various walks through the markets which are worth following. Another good walk is through the Jumrum Creek Environmental Park, which you can join at Barang Street or alternatively, Thongon Street off of Barron Falls Road. Along Barron Falls Road you can also visit the Barron Falls, as well as a great lookout over the Barron Gorge National Park.

Jum Rum Creek Conservation ParkThere are also guided tours of the local rainforest, which you can join if you prefer. The Kuranda Riverboat and Rainforest Tours offer both guided walks as well as boat cruises. Another rather unique tour is within Rainforestation, which offers trips on Amphibious Vehicles around the Rainforest and Wildlife Park.

There are plenty of places around Kuranda where you can see wildlife. As well as within the gorgeous rainforests, you can see wildlife at the Australian Butterfly Sanctuary, the Aviary, Birdworld, and Australian Venom Zoo.

There are several places to stay in Kuranda from hostels to bed and breakfast resorts, which caters for most budgets. Kuranda also has some great eating places, with a number of restaurants and cafes around the town and some great food stalls in the market.Kuranda Skyrail Rainforest Boardwalk

You can get to Kuranda on White Car Coaches which leave daily from Cairns and continue to Chillagoe. However, two other ways which are great fun include the Kuranda Scenic Railway and the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway. A great way to experience both transport methods is to go to Kuranda on one and return on the other.
