Nambucca Heads is just off of the Pacific Highway.
The local Aboriginal people are the Gumbaingeri and in their language
Nambucca means ‘many bends’. The town overlooks the Nambucca River,
with Riverside Drive being the main road leading into the town.
The main shopping street is Bowra Street, while Ridge Street leads
you down to the gorgeous beaches as well as North Head and Captain
Cook Lookout. The main beach is Main Beach which is good for surfing,
and is also patrolled.
Nambucca Heads is on the bus and train route
along the coast and so is relatively easy to get to, and offers
a variety of attractions.
It also offers a range of accommodation situated on the cost,
in the town and along the river. Eating out is also good, with
quality food and budget prices. There are several other coastal
resorts on the way to Coffs Harbour,
again offering good beaches. Urunga is situated at the mouth of
two rivers (the Bellinger River and the Kalang River). It is a
very popular place for water sports. Just south of Urunga is Hungary
Head which has a great surfing beach.
