There are several ski resorts in Victoria and a great example is the Hotham ski resort. Other well known Victorian ski resorts are Falls Creek, Mount Buller, Mount Buffalo and Mount Baw Baw. Two of Victorias premier ski resorts are located within the Alpine National Park, Mt Hotham Ski Resort and Falls Creek.
Hotham Ski Resort is located along the Great Alpine Road. The Hotham Ski Resort features some fantastic skiing conditions and is also home to a wide selection of bars, nightclubs, and restaurants. It covers 320 hectares of terrain Beginner: 20% Intermediate: 40% Advanced: 40%. The longest run is 2.5 km and there are 13 lifts consisting of Summit, Summit Trainer, Big D Express, Big D Trainer, Blue Ribbon, Orchard, Keoghs, Gotcha, Village, Heavenly Valley, Playground Lower, Playground Upper, Road Runner.
Falls Creek Ski Resort is located in north-eastern Victoria about 350 kilometres by road from Melbourne. The resort has 14 lifts and lies between an altitude of 1,210 and 1,830 metres, with the highest lifted point at 1780 metres.
Mt Buller Ski Resort has an amazing variety of skiing. Runs vary from the easy and gentle to the steep and fast, with a terrain mix of around 20% suitable for beginners, 45% for intermediate skiers, and 35% for advanced skiers. The Ski Resort includes 25 ski lifts which have the capability of moving 40,000 people per hour. There is over 300 hectares of terrain and more than 80km of marked trails.
Mount Buffalo is the smallest ski resort in Victoria it is located 200 km northeast of Melbourne. The ski resort covers an overall area of 10 hectares with beginner: 50%, Intermediate: 40%, Advanced: 10%. There are two skiing areas, Cresta Valley and Dingo Dell. Cresta is the main area, which had five lifts but are now closed. The downhill skiing area is 27 hectares, and the eight runs are mostly for beginner and intermediate skiers.
Mount Baw Baw is a small ski resort located in Gippsland. It is an excellent must visit ski resort for beginners who have no previous skills on skiing to wish to start learning. The ski season runs from June to October. People visit Mount Baw Baw Ski Resort as it has lots of natural terrain, relatively inexpensive, family oriented resort and is reasonably quiet.
