Terara is situated on the south bank of the shoalhaven river, 3 kilometres east of Nowra.
It was the first settlement established on the south side of the shoalhaven river, but two very large floods resulted in the town being moved to Nowra. Only a few of the original buildings now remain. it is now a residential and farming area.
