Hearsons Cove

Natural Attractions

Hearsons Cove - Karratha, Western AustraliaHearsons Cove is a picturesque inlet on the Burrup Peninsula, and is well known as one of the most beautiful swimming beaches in the region. Take a mask and snorkel to appreciate the interesting view underwater in this calm clear stretch of ocean. Children will enjoy the novelty of collecting shells on this naturally formed shell beach.

If your visit to the area is between the months of May and October, check with the Visitor Centre to find out the dates for the natural spectacular known as 'Staircase to the Moon'. This intriguing phenomenon can be seen clearly from the cove and is caused when the moon reflects off the mudflats at very low tides to create the optical illusion of a staircase leading up to the moon.

Explore the countryside surrounding the cove with the natural red rock that typifies the area. A substantial number of Aboriginal rock engravings, estimated at several thousand years old, have been found in the area.

Hearsons Cove is a half an hour drive from Karratha. Karratha is a two hour flight from Perth.
