Woodfired Pottery

Galleries, Museums and Collections, Shopping

Woodfired Pottery - Huonville, TasmaniaThe Woodfired Pottery is a potter's studio in Glen Huon, in Tasmania's Huon Valley. Glen Huon is a five-minute drive west of Huonville, and 40 minutes south of Hobart (58 kilometres).

The Woodfired Pottery studio and workshop is located in a converted early-20th century barn, surrounded by gardens and farmland. The potter, John Martin, designs and hand-makes a range of pottery pieces and demonstrates traditional pottery making and firing techniques for visitors. Each piece is finished with natural glazes reflecting the colours of the surrounding environment, and the flame and ash generated in the wood firing process creates a distinctive finish. The Woodfired Pottery produces decorative and functional pieces made from stoneware and porcelain clays.

There are a number of artists and galleries in the Huon Valley and D'Entrecasteaux Channel area. You can visit Studio Karma in Glen Huon - the studio of watercolour artist Terry Choi-Lundberg. The Regnan's Gallery at Peppermint Bay, near Woodbridge, displays quality Tasmanian art and craft, and at Enchanted Woods at Castle Forbes Bay, you can watch a local wood turner creating fine woodcraft from Tasmanian specialty timbers.
