Nan Tien Temple

Overview

The Nan Tien Temple was opened in 1995 as a centre for cultural, educational and religious functions. The temple is an International Buddhist Monastery founded by Fo Kuang Shan.

Nan Tien, in Chinese, literally means 'Paradise of the Southern Hemisphere'. Nan Tien Temple is a non-profit organisation incorporated in New South Wales. The prime objective of the temple is to promote cultural exchange between the north, south, east and west and especially to propagate Buddhism in the Southern Hemisphere.

The architecture of the Nan Tien temple adopts the Chinese Palace style with a total site area of 55 acres and a building are of 6,600 square metres. The Great Hero Hall (main shrine) enshrines five majestic Buddha statues and 8,000 niches of smaller Buddha images around the walls, therein reviving the majestic features of the Tunhuang architecture of ancient China.

The main shrine can comfortably accommodate 800 people.

Bookings are essential for bus groups.
