Peter Faust Dam

Natural Attractions, National Parks and Reserves, Sports and Recreation Facilities

Peter Faust Dam - Proserpine, QueenslandTucked away just 30 minutes inland from Proserpine is Peter Faust Dam. It's an ideal spot for water sports and an even better location for freshwater fishing with the prospect of landing a prized Barramundi - the prince of freshwater catches. A combination of tropical climate with long summers and mild winters, a very active fish stocking group, and the submerged branches and structure surrounding the lake, make it the ideal spot for Barramundi and you may even catch your first metre-plus Barra!

Peter Faust Dam, which is also known as Lake Proserpine, is situated 26 kilometres inland from the town of Proserpine - just a short drive from the tourist haven of Airlie Beach, the gateway to the famous Whitsunday Islands and The Great Barrier Reef. Lake Proserpine plays host to some of the biggest Barramundi and Sooty Grunter found in impoundments in Australia, as well as Sleepy Cod and Saratoga, making it the ideal sport fishing destination. Handy with a crab pot? Why not put a few in around the banks and see if you can catch yourself some Red Claw, freshwater crayfish that also inhabit the lake.

The boat ramp is situated on the left-hand side of the lake.
