Dog's Bar is a wine bar, restaurant and arts hub. It is open from 8am to 1am everyday (also open all Public Holidays)
Dog's Bar is a bit of an institution in Melbourne. It was opened in 1989 and was the first 'bar' in Australia. In summer you can enjoy it's fantastic people watching terraces and in winter you can sit next to the open fires.
The owner for the last decade has been David Carruthers. Over the years he has developed a sustainable focus to wine and food as well as developing an 'arts hub' at Dog's Bar.
The arts hub runs over 500 events a year including live music seven days a week, weekly visual arts shows, short film and documentary screenings, cabaret, comedy, storytelling, ten minute plays and more, so there's always something interesting and entertaining going on at Dog's Bar.
Dog's Bar is big into sourcing locally and the wine list has a strong Victorian component, with the best and most sustainable winemakers being represented on this list. There is also the best of the rest of Australia and the best of the rest of the world featured on this list. You can enjoy these wines on their own, with a meal or you can also buy them and take them home with you! There's every chance you'll bump into a winemaker delivering wine,
Dog's Bar offers Italian inspired food in a casual dining environment. Eating at Dog's Bar is another experience in local sourcing. Almost all the ingredients used in the preparation of your meal, are delivered by the farmer/grower themselves. Over 95% come from within Victoria.
