Finley was the first town selected, in the 1800's, for a Pioneer Railway. The rail was extended to Finley in 1898, at a time when NSW was experiencing financial difficulty. The Railways saved money by adopting the "Pioneer Rail Standards" for this,and a few other stations that were connected at this time.
