Cooma Area

The Cooma Monaro Region first attracted settlers to the region 150 years ago for the grazing potential of the vast grasslands. Since then Cooma has welcomed gold miners, graziers and the many Australians, old and new, who built the Snowy Scheme.

Today, visitors are attracted to the snow in winter and the cold fresh air of the mountains in summer. There are several National Parks within one hour of the town of Cooma. Namadgi National Park to the north, Wadbilliga National Park to the east and Kosciuszko National Park to the west with the highest mountain in Australia, Mount Kosciuszko.

The National Parks offer some of the most varied landscape you are likely to witness anywhere in Australia. Cooma's central location makes it a great base for exploring the region. The Snowy Mountains Scheme, ski resorts, lakes and rural areas are all a leisurely drive away.
