Highlights include; Uluru - Kata Tjuta National Park and Alice Springs Desert Park.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Alice Springs

On arrival in Alice Springs you will be transferred to your hotel (flights to arrive prior to 12:30pm). This afternoon you will tour 'The Alice', including a visit to the historic Telegraph Station. Visit the Royal Flying Doctor Service and the School of the Air. At the Alice Springs Reptile Centre you will see unique Central Australian reptiles. Later enjoy panoramic views of Alice Springs and the ranges from the top of Anzac Hill.

Hotel: Ibis Styles Alice Springs Oasis (Budget), Aurora Alice Springs (Standard), Lasseters Hotel (Superior) or Chifley Alice Springs Resort, River Gum Rooms (First Class), Alice Springs, 3 nights.

Day 2: West MacDonnell Ranges

Travel west from Alice Springs following the spectacular West MacDonnell Ranges. Pass the John Flynn Memorial (founder of the Royal Flying Doctor Service). Our first stop is at Simpsons Gap with its beautiful red gums. Continue to Angkerle (Standley Chasm). Walk along the stony watercourse lined with cycads, ghost gums, cypress pines and acacias.

A light lunch will be provided before you depart for Alice Springs Desert Park. Explore the Desert Rivers, Sand Country and Woodland habitats and discover many of the secrets of the Central Australian deserts. Visit the Nocturnal House and witness free-flying birds of prey in the nature theatre at the Birds of Prey presentation. Afterwards you will be transferred back to Alice Springs. Day 3: Palm Valley 4WD Safari

This one day 4WD safari travels through the West MacDonnell Ranges to Hermannsburg**, an Aboriginal community and historic precinct which is renowned for its Aboriginal art collection and the works of Albert Namatjira. Travel down the bed of the Finke River, one of the oldest watercourses in the world, into Palm Valley. See spectacular rock forms, white sands and an oasis of rock pools and palm trees.

Day 4: Kata Tjuṯa (the Olgas)

Travel south from Alice Springs through the West MacDonnell and James Ranges. Your Driver Guide will provide comprehensive commentary of your surrounds as you pass through the rugged scenery of the outback. Visit a camel farm where there is time to take a short optional camel ride (own expense) if you wish. Pause to view majestic Atila (Mt. Conner) before arriving at Ayers Rock Resort. Later, travel to the mystical 36 domes of Kata Tjuta, arriving at the base of Walpa Gorge. The walking trail through Walpa Gorge follows the natural creek between two of the tallest domes of Kata Tjuta. In the late afternoon we travel to the Uluru sunset viewing area. Witness and photograph the striking colour changes of Uluru at sunset while enjoying nibbles and a complimentary glass of wine.

Day 5: Uluṟu (Ayers Rock) – Kings Canyon

Rise early this morning to travel to the Uluṟu sunrise viewing area, Talinguṟu Nyakunytjaku. Watch the first rays of the sunset the Red Centre alight while enjoying a warming cup of tea or coffee and biscuits. After watching the sunrise you will join your AAT Kings Driver Guide for a tour around the base of Uluṟu. Travel by coach to the Muṯitjulu Walk where you will be escorted to the beautiful Muṯitjulu Waterhole. View Aboriginal rock paintings and learn about the area as your Driver Guide indicates some native flora and explains the Aboriginal and European history of Uluṟu. Visit the Uluṟu – Kata Tjuṯa Cultural Centre, where you can learn about Aboriginal culture and see Aboriginal arts and crafts, before returning to Ayers Rock Resort. On days when the Uluṟu Climb is open, those with a good level of fitness will have the opportunity to climb Uluṟu as an alternative to the Uluṟu Base Tour. Uluṟu is a sacred site for the Aṉangu people and they prefer that visitors do not climb it. With this in mind, we do not recommend it. You will enjoy time at leisure before travelling to Kings Canyon Resort.

Day 6: Kings Canyon – Alice Springs

This morning join a guided climb to the rim of the canyon for marvellous views of Watarrka National Park. It is a 3 hour walk and is recommended for those with a good level of fitness. Alternatively, you may wish to explore the boulderstrewn canyon floor (an easier, shady walk). Stop at Kings Canyon Resort to purchase lunch (own expense) before travelling on to Alice Springs.

Day 7: Depart Alice Springs

You'll be transferred to the Alice Springs Airport for your onward flights (flights anytime).
