Giant Tides Archipelago Scenic Flight

Giant Tides Archipelago Scenic Flight - Scenic FlightsTake a flight into the Pearling waters of the Kimberley and view Cygnet Bay! A place that needs to be seen to be believed. Let Broome Aviation take you to witness Australia’s oldest operating Pearl Farm in action!

We provide free transfers from all accommodation in and around Broome. Once you are collected from your hotel, you will be brought to our very own departure lounge located at the Broome International Airport. There, you will be greeted with fresh Nespresso pod coffee and tea in air-conditioned comfort. Your Pilot will give a short safety demonstration before educating you on the flight.

Departing Broome you head over the township of Broome passing Chinatown, Roebuck Bay and surrounds. The flight path takes you over Malcolm Douglas Crocodile farm and the Broome Road before you heading towards the Dampier Peninsula.

As you fly past the millions of hectares of station land, rich in Aboriginal Heritage, your pilot will entertain you with stories and a history of the area before you enter the area known as the Buccaneer Archipelago.

Next, you will descend over the township of Derby where the fabled Fitzroy River spills into swirling mudflats of the King Sound, the exit point of the mighty Fitzroy River. You will see the Kimbolton Ranges through your window, a reminder of the age of the region. These ancient relics are the product of a Devonian reef system that once was. The thousands of islands which form the Buccaneer Archipelago become distinct. We are now over pearling waters where the many pearl farms of the archipelago become visible. Incredible photo opportunities abound here.

The Horizontal Waterfalls soon come into sight as the aircraft is positioned, to get the perfect view from the window. This magnificent example of Mother Nature’s power is closely aligned between the gorges of the McLarty Range, located in Talbot Bay. The Horizontal Falls are a fastmoving tidal flow through two narrow fingers, the direction of the flow reverses with each change of tide. As tides in the Kimberley can reach ten metres, a peak tide gives rise to a significant difference in the sea level on either side of each gorge, which creates the rushing water of the Horizontal Falls.

Flying over Talbot Bay, the home of the famous Paspaley Pearling Empire, you can see hundreds of long lines each housing the valuable creatures that cultivate the pearl. Your Pilot weaves their way through the islands of Cockatoo and Koolan (mining empires) and heads to Cygnet Bay. At Cygnet Bay, you will have a chance to take in the sights while enjoying a freshly prepared breakfast. You are then escorted on a tour to take you behind the scenes of one of Australia’s most secretive industries. You are taken on the sea to view a real-life working pearl farm, offering you the unique opportunity to witness the beauty of this area from the water as well as from the air. Cruise through the Kimberley rock islands in the Sunday Island Group on the powerful boat and view the standing waves and whirlpools created by this region’s giant tidal movements.

At the end of this incredible boat tour enjoy the opportunity to witness the end product. Cygnet Bay’s stunning pearls (and even an opportunity to purchase your own). Once you have finished browsing, you can then feast on a delicious lunch at the Cygnet Bay Bistro. After lunch, you head back to the skies and to Cape Leveque where the red rock cliffs meet the white sandy beaches to the pristine blue waters. Afternoon tea will be served here.

Walking over the hill at Cape Leveque is like walking into an unspoiled paradise. You will be one of the few that are privy to this wonderful experience. Afternoon tea of muffins, fruit, tea and coffee will be served and there will also be time for a swim in the pristine turquoise waters. Optional tours are available from Cape Leveque.

After a brief stay in this stunning area, you are off again for a quick forty five minute flight down the coast past Lombadina, Prices Point, Sandy Bay, Beagle Bay, and Willie Creek to arrive back in Broome.

On arrival in Broome you are welcomed back to the departure lounge where your Pilot will award you with a free gift and extra information about the tour before you are whisked back to your accommodation.
