Forest Discovery Day Tour
Is there really an animal that eats its own skin? Measure the height of some of Tasmania’s tallest trees. Discover an animal that lives for only 2 days! As we wander the paths of Mt. Field National Park, we find out the secrets of our mosses, fungi, trees, streams, waterfalls, animals and much more. Learn what lies above, below and all around you on our Forest Discovery tour.
We travel from Hobart to Mt. Field National Park, a short and scenic 1.5 hour drive. Here, we discover the secrets of the forest as we wander along the gentle trails of Tasmania’s oldest National Park. On your way to Russell Falls we get our Explorers’ kits and investigate the small and large inhabitants of the forest surrounds. This and Horseshoe Falls make ideal backdrops for some great photographs. Then along the Tall Trees Track prepare to be amazed by the forest giants as they tower above you! Our guide will teach you how to measure the height of the trees and you’ll compare your results to those of the experts!
We enjoy a lunch break in the National Park and then head onwards to Westerway Raspberry Farm. In season at this fantastic farm gate stop, an abundance of fresh berries come straight from the field to the shopfront. Enjoy some fresh local produce or treat yourself to an ice-cream!
Our final stop for the day is the Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary. Enjoy some free time to wander amongst the local wildlife and hand-feed the wallabies.
We return back into Hobart around 5:00pm.
