We get off the beaten track and head to stunning Pender Bay where in season the majestic Humpback Whales are often seen. Returning to Broome embark on an amazing adventure by plane and boat to the famous Horizontal Falls, described by David Attenborough as ‘Australia’s most unusual natural phenomenon’.

Continuing on an iconic outback 4WD adventure we visit the Kimberley’s remote outback towns and explore the region’s world famous natural features. We take in guided walks of West Kimberley gorges, enjoy a wildlife focused cruise, spend a full day in the spectacular Bungle Bungles and learn about life on a working cattle station. Day 1 Wednesday : Beagle Bay, Pearl Farm, Sunset Boat Cruise

Our 4WD Kimberley Tour departs Broome early this morning. We journey up the spectacular Dampier Peninsula along the Cape Leveque dirt road. Largely Aboriginal-owned land, the Dampier Peninsula is a delight for travellers seeking a Kimberley experience that is culturally rewarding in a beautiful environment. Travelling up the red ‘pindan’ 4WD track, we hear about the peninsula’s fascinating place in Australia’s history from our guided commentary. Our first stop is the Beagle Bay Aboriginal Community, home of the Beagle Bay Church and its glimmering pearl shell altar, where we enjoy morning tea. Arriving at beautiful Kooljaman on the tip of Cape Leveque we have time to swim and beachcomb on the pristine beach. After lunch we journey across to Cygnet Bay where we join a fascinating Pearl Farm Tour learning about the world’s largest and most beautiful pearls that have been farmed in these waters for generations by the family owned business. Later this afternoon we take to the waters on a sunset cruise in the picturesque Buccaneer Archipelago.

Day 2 Thursday : Pender Bay, Bush Tucker Tour

After a relaxing breakfast we travel back along the Cape Leveque Road before joining a sandy coastal track that takes us to sublime Pender Bay where we enjoy a picnic lunch overlooking the migration grounds of the humpback whale. We then tour the innovative Gubinge (Kakadu Plum) Processing Facility and learn of the amazing natural benefits of this native bush food and the savannah enrichment project in this majority Indigenous owned business (subject to access and seasonal opening – if not available an alternative experience may be substituted). After an incredible journey to one of Australia’s most stunning best-kept secrets we arrive back in Broome late this afternoon where you will check into your comfortable resort style accommodation.

Day 3 Friday : Horizontal Falls Adventure

The Kimberley experiences massive tidal movements and there is no better place to witness the power of the tides then the iconic Horizontal Falls. Enjoy a half or full-day adventure, depending on the tides, to one of the jewels of the Kimberley – the Horizontal Waterfalls. A transfer from your Broome accommodation takes you to the airport for your scenic flight out to this amazing natural phenomenon located in stunning Talbot Bay. You will enjoy time out on the water taking in the beauty and nature before an exhilarating fast boat ride through the falls. This is truly a day to remember. Please note that a third party operator provides tours to the Horizontal Falls. Day 4 Saturday | Free Day in Broome with Touring Options

Today you have the opportunity to explore the fascinating coastal town of Broome. Perhaps venture into the historical Chinatown district and enjoy the café vibe as you wander along the streets lined with pearl galleries and artisan wares. Every Saturday Chinatown is also home to the famous Courthouse Markets where local vendors and food stalls gather showcasing the best local Kimberley produce. The afternoon is the perfect time to relax on stunning Cable Beach with its’ pristine Indian Ocean azure waters lapping the golden sands. A Broome visit isn’t complete with out enjoying a sunset cocktail at the iconic Cable Beach Club Sunset Bar & Grill, viewing the sun disappearing on the horizon as the camels lope past the palm tree lined sands. You know you are in paradise. Note: the itinerary for Days 3 & 4 may be reversed depending on Horizontal Falls tour availability.

Day 5 Sunday : Derby, Windjana Gorge, Tunnel Creek

Departing Broome this morning we’ll travel through the remote and beautiful landscape of the Western Kimberley, learning of local history, people and the environment crossing the Fitzroy River and visiting the famous Prison Boab Tree. We arrive in the township of Derby located on the tidal mud flats on the edge of the King Sound known for having the highest tidal range of any port in Australia prior to beginning our journey on the remote cattle track, the Gibb River Road. We travel towards the Napier Range, once a Devonian reef these escarpments are over 350 million years old and home to a diverse array of animals and plants. The perfect place to experience the stunning natural beauty of an outback oasis is the 3.5km geological wonder of Windjana Gorge and then exploring Tunnel Creek, a 750-metre cave system carved through the Range, in which we discover stalactites, secret caves and a variety of wildlife. It is here we also learn the legend of Jandamarra, an Aboriginal freedom fighter who used the tunnel as a hide out in the late 1800’s. As the sun sets we journey through the Oscar Ranges and groves of majestic Boab trees before arriving at our comfortable accommodation on the banks of the Fitzroy River.

Day 6 Monday | Geikie Gorge Cruise, Halls Creek

After breakfast we travel via Geikie Gorge National Park where we explore the magnificent Darngku by boat. Nature carved this spectacular 30m deep gorge between the Geikie and Oscar Ranges during the Devonian geological period. The best way to experience the scenery and abundant wildlife of this natural wonder is to join the Geikie Gorge ranger-guided cruise. Geikie Gorge floods during the wet season, with the swirling water leaving its bleached mark on the colourful gorge walls. Though the water retreats during the dry season, permanent water remains to sustain the wide variety of Kimberley wildlife. This morning we depart Fitzroy Crossing, breaking the journey in the the gold rush town of Halls Creek where we will visit an Aboriginal Art Gallery featuring the work of local artists who we may have the opportunity to meet. Continuing we arrive at our comfortable accommodation, home for the next two nights, at the famous Mabel Downs Station. As you settle in your guide will prepare a tasty BBQ for dinner that is enjoyed as we sit around the campfire in this special outback setting.

Day 7 Tuesday : Bungle Bungles Touring

An early morning start sees our 4WD Kimberley Tour vehicle tackle the Spring Creek Track. After a brief stop at the Visitor Centre we have a full day to explore the highlights of this extraordinary World Heritage protected Purnululu National Park, the most famous of which, are the Bungle Bungle domes. Rivers created this landscape of unique orange and black striped ‘beehive’ geological formations over a period of 20 million years. Unbelievably, only the locals knew it existed until the early 1980’s; once discovered by others, the area was made a national park in 1987. We explore Echidna Chasm (2km), known for its towering Livistonia Palm trees, and take a short walk (2-3km) into stunning Cathedral Gorge, where towering rocks create a natural amphitheatre. This is a truly memorable day as we once again share stories around the campfire tonight.

Day 8 Wednesday : Optional Bungles Helicopter Flight, China Wall

Today we have the option of an inspiring helicopter scenic flight over the Bungle Bungles (from $295.00 per person) that will surely be a highlight of your trip. After departing Mabel Downs Station we visit the interesting natural feature of China Wall. A natural quartz formation that runs six kilometres along the landscape, the wall is an echo of that for which it was named – the Great Wall of China. Continuing back along Highway One we arrive at Yeeda Station, the oldest working cattle station in the Kimberley. This evening we enjoy a delicious long table dinner of Yeeda Beef at the station homestead in the evocative outback surroundings prior to retiring to our comfortable accommodation in stylish en-suited Eco Tents

Day 9 Thursday : Working Cattle Station Tour

At Yeeda Pastoral Company we gain an insight into the day-to-day life on a working cattle station in the Kimberley on a guided tour of the property. Travel along station tracks, through vast paddocks, via cattle watering points and station yards. Take in the millions of acres, catch stockmen at work, and see cattle grazing and amazing wildlife. Learn about the history of the station that goes back to the 1800’s and about how Yeeda came to be one of the most progressive pastoral companies in the Kimberley. After lunch we continue our journey arriving in Broome in the late afternoon where your 4WD Kimberley tour concludes.
