ACT Fishing Licences and Restrictions

Recreational fishers in ACT are not required to hold a fishing licence or pay a fishing fee, however, some restrictions do apply in order to sustain the fish supply in the State.

You are not required to hold a recreational fishing licence to fish in ACT. When fishing in ACT water you are not permitted to:

* Move plants/animals to new waterways

* Sell anything you catch

* Take protected species from the water

* Use live finfish, frogs or fish eggs as bait

* Use spear guns, bows and arrows, poisons, firearms etc to catch fish

Restrictions apply regarding the bag limit and minimum size required to take from the waterways. These vary across the species which include Murray Cod, Trout, Redfin, Carp and more. You should consult the website listed above for the current minimum sizes and bag limit regulations.

The following species are protected in ACT:

* Cod

* Macquarie Perch

* Murray River Crayfish

* Silver Perch

* Trout

*Two-spined Blackfish

You are not permitted to take any of the above species from the water and if you happen to catch one you must return it with care immediately.
