Road Trip NE Coast Onwards
I am a 25 year old English gal from London looking for another girl to travel with from Townsville area either round the coast into Northern Territory or inland to Alice Springs. Looking for someone similar to me who doesn't really know what they are doing but just wants to see some of Australia. I am drawn to weirder places and don't like the idea of an organised ‘backpacker’ trip so thinking of driving and seeing where I end up and would be good to find someone to do it with. I don't have a car but thinking about picking one up in Airlie beach area so that I can get up to Townsville. Should be ready to go by mid Jan.

I am currently looking for a friend to do Melbourne/Sydney to Cairns along the coast, and then return via Uluru. Looking to leave around the 27th of December and be away for 12 days. Would this work with your plans?

Hi there London gal.
Im Bill from Melb.
My eye caught your post and I thought Id bring you up to speed about your intended trip.
Firstly, welcome to our beautiful country.
January up North is very hot and humid.
You say you want to get a car and head North and inland , and head to Alice Springs, and that you like remote
and weirder places.
Please be aware that this type of travel at any time across the top end, let alone in the hottest part of the year
does have its dangers.
I would not take a "budget buy" and unprepared vehicle across that country.
Make sure you get a good mechanic on the coast to go over it with a fine tooth comb and that you TELL HIM
what you are about to do with it. Make sure he supplies you with vital spares that you must carry.
I can help you only if you are carrying parts for your car. Otherwise your in trouble. Theres no RAC out there.
Make sure you carry 10 litres of drinking water for each person Min. That is, plan so that when you arrive at each planned water point, you still have 10 litres for each person still in stock. Thats what will save you if you break down a day away from your next water point. Dont run out of water. Youre not in the Lake district for a weekend away here. Geyt serious and stay alive. Dont get too adventurous. The more off road you go the more prepared you have to be.
Learn to plan with these key words. WHAT IF, WHAT IF, WHAT IF. If you haven't an answer for the key questions, then prepare more or don't go there. Its that simple. Its easy to die. It takes preparation and planning to survive.
Enjoy your adventure trip and when you get to Melb, let have a beer and talk about it.
