Broome to Darwin / Gibb River Road / Kimberleys
Hi there, I'm writing a novel which is partly set in The Kimberleys (with my main characters travelling the Gibb River Road via 4WD/Jeep from Broome to Darwin). My partner and I did the trip when we were backpacking around Oz in October 2008 and although I have very sharp memories of our experiences, I'd love to hear from anyone who's toured this area recently. I kept a journal when we travelled and have really enjoyed using the notes I made about things like the smell of the outback, the colour of the sea in Broome, the mangroves, the red earth, etc, but I'd love to read about other travellers' thoughts and impressions, even the mundane and the everyday just to get a feel for it again. No personal details required, but I'd be interested in any stories of what you got up to while touring the area: Who did you meet along the way? Where did you stop for fuel and supplies? What wildlife did you see? What were your impressions of Cathedral Gorge? Windjana Gorge? Purnululu NP? Also, the general vibe of hostels in Broome and Darwin? My husband and I now have two young children so this is a trip back to a previous life for me!! Look forward to hearing from anyone who can bring back some memories for me! Thank you.
