From Brisbane to Sydney - The long way!
Hi Everyone! I'm a newbie in this forum and I'd like to thank you all beforehand for the help you'll be able to give me :)
My boyfriend and I are on our second WHV, currently living and working in Brisbane. We own a 2006 Ford Falcon wagon (NSW plated, we're getting a QLD plate soon).
After spending most of our stay in Australia working, we have decided we want to start road tripping in April. We're allowing 45-50 days (more or less) to travel from Brisbane to Sydney the VERY long way :D
We do not plan on going to Cairns as we are already going there for a few days after NYE.
Our route plan would be something like this:
Brisbane - Hervey Bay – Rockhampton – Mackay – Airlie Beach (Whitsundays) – Townsville – Charters Towers – White Mountains NP (Torrens Creek) – Hughenden – Richmond – Cloncurry – Mt. Isa – Camooweal – Soudan Station – Tennant Creek – Devils Marbles – Anmatjere – Alice Springs – Hermannsburg – King’s Canyon– Yulara (Uluru)– Kata Tjuta – Curtin Springs – Ghan– Cadney Park - Coober Pedy - Woomera – Port Augusta – Port Pirie – Innes NP – Port Wakefield– Adelaide – Kangaroo Island – Victor Harbor – Bordertown – Grampians NP – Warrnambool – Torquay (Great Ocean Road) – Melbourne – Phillip Island – Walhalla– Metung – Mallacoota – Narooma – Jervis Bay– Kiama– Sydney
Of course some of these places are of no particular interest to us, they only serve as a reference on where to stop, if needed.
Is there anything you would change? Any recommendations/ suggestions?
Consider we do not have a 4WD - are these roads suitable for a 2WD?
Things we absolutely do not want to miss are:
Whitsundays (we are certified scuba divers), the red centre and aboriginal communities, Coober pedy & its mines, Great Ocean Road and Phillip Island.
We plan on stopping for a few days in Uluru, Coober Pedy, Adelaide and Melbourne.. Any other long stopovers you'd recommend?
Any advices are most welcome!! Thanks!!!!

Hi Geena And thanks for taking the time to reply!
We've actually on the road already.. We left Brisbane in May and we're now in WA :) that's how long our way has been so far :) we have visited the coast from Sydney to Brisbane last year and we have been to Port Stephens and Stockton beach! We had a blast, so I totally agree with you, it's definitely a must for anyone doing that road!
Our next plan is to leave the Gascoyne region (where we are at the moment) and drive till Perth. We'll go to Bali for 10 days (scuba diving!) and then we'll carry on till Margaret River (I'm very much into wine) and finally to Adelaide where we are likely to settle for a couple of months :)
Anywhere between Perth and Adelaide that you'd recommend? :) thanks!

So cool that you can manage to have 50 days for a trip. Brisbane to Sydney is a long journey considering the places en-route. You are going to have a memorable trip. I think for planning a trip so long you should take help of a trip planner. I did just that while planning my trip to Australia, http://www.triphobo.com/australia-oceania, it was a great entertainer. I think you should include Stockton Beach if you like sand boarding, and quad biking. Port Stephens is another place that should be a part of your itinerary as you love snorkelling and diving. Have a great trip!!!
