We are so close to taking off on our dream trip around Australia with our two children aged 6 and 4, just waiting for harvest to be over then we are out of here :-))
We did ALOT of research before we brought our van ( coromal lifestyle family van with bunks ).. comfort and safety were our main priorities. Yes a camper van is lighter and easier to tow, but the canvas walls were a major turn off for us, I have heard of some horrible stories of people kniffing the sides, snakes, mosquitoes, and not to mention dampness. I would rather my children nice and warm in there proper beds each night safe and sound.
As for Schooling, I am home schooling mine. Im in W.A, each state has different laws so check with your education department. Im using S.I.D.E ( schooling for isolated and distance education ) Its government ran and seems very ideal. Just waiting on my interveiw with them in a few weeks to get all our books etc.
Just thought I would also let you know that you as a parent doing home schooling is entitled to payments for doing so through centerlink. I had no idea about this until I was browsing the net.
Hopefully harvest will be finished here by the start of Jan, so we will be doing the south coast to perth in feb, then flying to exmouth, then back to perth to start our trip heading up north first :-))
We have plenty of work lined up which is fantastic, are you guys planning on working as well??
Hope some of this info helps you out !

First of all I thought I would comment on how fantastic it is that you have decided to travel Australia... best experience you will ever have! My husband & I took our three daughters away for 18 months. For the entire trip I home schooled them. There teachers gave me alot of work to give them & at a young age... you are able to explain it better. Now they are in high school & I don't have a clue about the stuff they ask me!
Just a bit of advice... I would get a campervan! Especially with kids, they love it more!
I hire from this great company... I would gladly pass on there details if you were interested.
