Alpha, the 'Town of Murals' is located on the Capricorn Highway and was established in 1884. The streets are named after poets. The town is known for it's large array of building murals painted on various buildings throughout the town. Each mural depicts a different aspect of pioneering and contemporary rural life.
The Jane Neville-Rolfe Gallery also boasts an excellent range of artworks from local artists and travelling shows. The volunteers at the Rowley Roberts information centre can show you exhibits of petrified wood and direct you to where you'll ber able see this in its natural setting.
Alpha has two hotels where you can enjoy a meal and drink, along with a cafe and bakehouse. CDMA mobile phones can get reception and there are pay phones. Alpha also has it's own airstrip and hospital.
