Gordon River Cruise With Buffet Lunch

Gordon River is famous for the astonishingly clear reflections in its dark surface – the pure and pristine river waters are stained amber by tannins from buttongrass plains in the upper reaches, deep in the wilderness. Wherever you sit on your cruise aboard you’ll have outstanding views through floor-to-ceiling windows and outdoor observation decks. Your allocated seat is your own throughout the voyage, so you’re free to move around whenever you wish.

On the half-day cruise from Strahan, you’ll cross the harbour to its narrow entrance at Hell’s Gates, passing through this once-dangerous stretch of water to feel the power of the Southern Ocean. Back inside the harbour, you’ll cruise slowly past fish farms producing salmon and ocean trout, then glide silently into the lower reaches of the Gordon.

On the return voyage to Strahan, we will stop at Sarah Island, once a feared penal colony where convicts laboured to harvest Huon pine and build ships using the superb timber. As you explore ashore, your guide will tell the dramatic stories of the island and its inhabitants. Then it’s time to come aboard again for the return journey to Strahan.

On the main deck, the choices include comfortable atrium seating or window recliners, both offering scenic views of the changing landscapes.
