This tour takes participants through the heart of Tasmania's history with a visit to the famous Port Arthur Historic Site. Not only will history buffs be satisified but participants will also have to opportunity to marvel at all the stunning natural attractions of Southern Tasmania including Hastings Caves, the Tasman Peninsula and the South West National Park. You will travel on the “Last road in Australia”. This unique Tasmanian experience is great value for money.
Day 1: Port Arthur & Tasman Peninsula
The tour begins in the morning with a visit to the famous Richmond Colonial Village. Here you will have plenty of time to stroll around Australia's most historic town and its beautiful Georgian buildings, including the oldest bridge in Australia. The tour then arrives at the Tasman Peninsula where you can check out the magnificent ocean and coastal views from Pirates Bay Lookout. You will then head up to Eaglehawk Neck and take a short walk on beautiful Egg Beach, learning about the famous convict Dogline.
The tour then stops at the fantastic natural attractions of Tasman Arch and Devils Kitchen before arriving at the famous Port Arthur Historic Site, Tasmania's number 1 visited destination. Here you will be given plenty of time to explore. Visit over 30 historic buildings, take a harbour cruise or walking tour to enhance the experience and check out the popular museum and theatre.
Before departing for Hobart you will be able to visit the stunning Remarkable Cave and check out the panoramic views from Maingon Bay Lookout, a great place to see whales! You will learn all about the famous convicts in Tasmania with an onboard DVD presentation on you bus, highlighting through stories and images the history behind the settlement. You need only sit enjoy the movie on the provided screens, even chocolate treats will be handed out to everybody. You will be dropped off at your accommodation in Hobart for the night.
Day 2: "Deep South" - Cockle Creek & Hastings Caves
Today you will journey to the end of the world, as the tour makes its way south through the beautiful Huon Valley enroute to Cockle Creek and Recherché Bay. You will be travelling on the last road in Australia, next stop Antarctica. Arriving in the South West National Park you will be able to enjoy a beautiful wilderness walk to Fischer’s Point whaling station and enjoy a swim if you would like.
Enjoy the serenity this bay provides before a short drive takes the group to the Hastings Caves. You will be able to see one of the best caves in the southern hemisphere on this guided tour. After visiting the caves take a dip in the thermal pools, the natural hot springs are at a constant 27 degrees and are a really enjoyable way to finish your trip. The return coach will take you back to your accommodation in Hobart.
NOTE: The 2012 - 2013 season rates are valid from the 1st April 2012 to the 31st March 2013. The 2013 - 2014 season rates commence on the 1st April 2013.
