Kingoonya is a small settlement in the far north of the Australian state of South Australia. It is a small community and was originally a railway settlement but now has a much-reduced population.
Kingoonya still has the widest main street in Australia. A street where cricket matches used to be played. Many of the facilities are still intact and there is an annual picnic race meeting at Kingoonya that is widely patronised.
The Hotel has recently reopened and offers a welcome break for weary travellers. There is a Telstra 'blue-phone' in the main street and the old store occasionally carries some supplies.
PLEASE NOTE: The South Australia travel destinations outlined above are only a small selection from the tens of thousands of Australian travel information pages available on Australian Explorer.
