Located at the foothills of the Connors Range, Sarina Shire is a relatively unspoiled area, which has retained much of its natural charm, while having developed into a thriving business area. Sarina Tourist Art and Craft Information Centre will provide you with friendly local advice. It also carries a host of beautiful locally made arts, crafts and souvenirs. Sarina Beach is just a few minutes from the town centre and includes a Surf Life Saving Club, boat ramp, beachfront store, a picnic area and lookout with amazing views. Accommodation and licensed restaurant facilities are available.
Grasstree Beach is home to a thriving fishing and prawning industry with unit accommodation, takeaways and a local convenience store. Picnic and boating facilities are nearby. Salonika Beach is a popular destination with beautiful beaches and abundant wildlife including the rare loggerhead turtle, echidnas, bush turkeys, sea eagles and seasonal whales and dolphins.
Lake Barfield which adjoins Salonika Beach, is a great place to stop as it is now a bird sanctuary and is home to black swans, white herons and egrets. Hay Point Coal Terminal is the largest coal export facility in the world with a record throughput of 74.7 million tonnes in 2002/2003. The administrative building at the Hay Point Coal Terminal operates a viewing platform where the handling and export activity can be viewed.
Freshwater Point is a small village located next to Armstrong Beach. The area is recognised for the presence of artefacts and other aboriginal cultural heritage items including fish traps and shell middens. Discover Sarina Week, the last week of May is highlighted by the Discover Sarina Festival which is particularly lively and highlighted by different arts competitions including the popular Sarina Fibre Arts Competition.
