2012 around oz with kids

We are heading north from brissy in march 2012 for a trip around oz with no time constraints. Selling house, business and bought caravan justvwaiting on birth of number 3 before heading off with kids 4and3. Would be great to have a network of other families doing a similar trip next year to share ideas, places and stories. Email us if you are keen on this idea

Sounds like a lot of fun! We are also hoping to head off next year. We will be departing from Victoria around June with our 2 month old, 2 yr old, 4 yr old and 6 yr old (also waiting for bub to be born!).

Not sure of our itinerary but would be fun to keep swapping ideas and stories!

Have you done much planning in regards to caravan / tent style or what you will have set up for bubs?

I think we are going to go pop top van with bunks n use bassinet for baby for awhile.

All the best with your preparations!

We are planning to leave in May 2013- a bit of a way off, I know. I can hardly wait! I need to save for a caravan (pop top) and awaiting long service leave! :) Tips are very much welcome.

What have you both done for schooling? I'm thinking of moving to VIC for a month before we head off and register for homeschooling as it's not allowed in NSW for travel purposes. :(

My family, (mum, dad, little brother and me) are planning to go in July 2012, as one of the most enthusiastoc,I'm our researcher. We're heading in to Uluru first and going to Brisbane afterwards. For schooling we're doing long distance education/external schooling through NSW.(we're in Newcastle)

Also we're travelling with a cat, any suggestions?

We are heading off indefinitely at the end of July 2012, in a camper trailer, with our 7yr old son and our dog, Dusty.  Looking forward to the adventure.  We are planning to go to Alice Springs for work first so Josh will go to a local school, but that is as far as we have planned.  We may do some home schooling combined with local schools depending on how long we intend on staying in a place.
Maybe we will see each other on the road.
Safe travels,

We have just brought a newlands onyx from the Sydney caravan and camping show last week. We are heading off around Australia this time next year with my hubby and 2 children aged now 2 and 6 months. Would be interested if the people above could keep in contact with me about the pro's and con's the do's and dont's from their experience.

It's taken us well over 2 years to actually get the guts to take the first step and we now have so no turning back. My hubby will work as we go around and I will try too if I can get the children looked after.

Happy traveling for all those people that have departed or are nearly ready too. Stay safe and can't wait to hear from you all. We are very excited to start our new journey together.

Kind regards

How exciting! I wish it was time for us to leave already! We are leaving in Jan 2013, with our now 6 month old, and our toy poodle! We are yet to purchase our camper trailer. We will be heading south from Central QLD in Jan, then back up to Byron Bay for my brothers wedding, and then back up north and around. We have no time limits, and hoping to find a new home town on our way! Would love to hear the goods and the bads of the people who are all ready to go!

Hi everyone. Donna here. We are in the very early stages of selling house all our belongings and heading off around Aus. We will have our two kids 12 and 7 and our three dogs. Sounds crazy three dogs, but they are our family. How have others found traveling with their pets? My partner is a diesel fitter/ mechanic in the mines and hopes to pick up work as a traveling mechanic and in other areas. Will there be plenty of work opportunities for him. I am in education, so plenty of relief work out there for me. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated, as I am freaking out!!!

Hi Donna, we are in the same boat. We are currently packing everything up and selling our stuff, and getting ready to leave in January. When will you be heading off? My husband is a painter, and our son is 6 months old, so I won't be working, but if I have to, I will be able to pick up some casual admin work at hospitals. I am freaking out too, but mostly about our dog!

Hi Alana, Are you taking your dog? I will be home schooling my kids, something I am looking forward to. I guess I am freaking out because it's just so removed from societies expectations. It has been a dream for many years and I don't want to look back with regret of not going. We want to be able to go around same time as you. Mark will be turning forty, so what better time??? Ha Ha

I have two little and an english staffy pup. Not sure if my molly will make trip. getting very old:( We are buying a big @22 foot van off road with wash machine toilet and shower etc. We already have a great jayco swan outback but it will be waaaay too small for us as we have a big house!!! So the big van will be an adjustment enough!!!!!! haven't found van yet but have a landcruiser diesel to pull it. Great car!!!!! Not sure where will be heading too first, but we are in Townsville, so most likely south. Hot time of year, so south will be best bet. Been studying internet and my camps 5 book, so very excited. we also have to sell our house, contents, a car a caravan and a boat!!!!!!!!! plan to have a small boat on car:)
