Taroona is a major residential suburb approximately 15 minutes drive from the centre of Hobart, Tasmania.
Taroona is an Aboriginal word meaning sea-shell. The first European settlement of the area took place in the early 19th century, when land was granted to settlers who had relocated from Norfolk Island.
Taroona has wonderful views over the Derwent River from the Alum Cliffs Walking Track linking Taroona Beach to Kingston Beach. If you don't mind heights climb the 48 metre Shot Tower and museum, open everyday between 9.00am - 5.00pm, which is definitely worth visiting.
