Wauchope

Located on the Hastings River and 19 kilometres west of Port Macquarie, Wauchope is a friendly town of country charm and hospitality. It was here in the mid 1800s that pioneers made the town famous as a timber town, and today features Timbertown, a major working re-creation of a typical 1800's timber town.

Now a modern rural centre, Wauchope is surrounded by picturesque farmland and forests and beyond, a hinterland of rainforest reserves and vast wilderness areas. Country retreats, B&B's and farmstays are the most popular choice of accommodation throughout the region.

Step back in time at Timbertown heritage theme park; meet the locals that grow the produce at the Hastings Farmers Markets or chill out with some hot jazz and fine wine at Bago Vineyard's Jazz in the Vineyard. Explore the many 4WD trails that wind their way through the National Parks and State Forests. Take a walk through remnant rainforest at Boorgana Nature Reserve in Comboyne.

Visit Ellenborough Falls, the waters plunge 200 vertical metres into a magnificent boxed gorge. Pack a picnic and head off on a rainforest walks in the Willi Willi National Park. Drive up to Bago Bluff, a local land mark, for spectacular views or some great 4wd touring. Pull in at Byabarra Blue Poles Cafe/Gallery, with its changing exhibitions and breathtaking views.
