Hinton is a neighbouring town to Morpeth on the banks of the Hunter River and just 8 kilometres north-east of Maitland. It is a tiny village that has some genuinely historic buildings. The bridge to Hinton is very unique and is the gateway into the township.
Due to the close proximity of the Hunter and Paterson rivers and the low elevation of surrounding ground the town is often isolated for a number of days during periods of exceptionally high rainfall.
