There are great mountain streams which start as a murmur and a trickle before flowing through steep, rugged gorges en route to fertile high country river flats nestled between the valleys. Here the rivers are like young foals running free and wild before maturing into the mighty waterways which nourish the landscape between the mountains and the seas.
Dams are open for fishing all year round and are famous for the size of their trout with large numbers replenished annually. Big stretches of water can be found at Khancoban Pondage, Talbingo Dam, Geehi Dam and Tooma Dam. Fossicking for gold and sapphires around Tumbarumba, the Paddy's River and Bago State Forest near Laurel Hill. Endless bushwalking wherever your feet will take you, Kosciuszko National Park, the forests of Laurel Hill, the Hume and Hovell walking track, Buddong falls, Paddy's River Falls and more.
Mountain Ash and numerous varieties of Eucalypts and Pines stud the hillsides around Tumbarumba and nearby Laurel Hill where there is a 'chapel' defined by an aisle of sugar pines deep within the forest. Khancoban has it's beautiful rose garden and with so many trees in the Shire, the air is always renewed and purified and the visual backdrop is forever green and lush.
