Discovered in 1869 by John Forrest, Gwalia is a "must see" when visiting the Goldfields. The Gwalia Museum and Historic Precinct sits alongside the historic gold mine, Sons of Gwalia, which has been worked since 1896.
The Precinct includes abandoned miners cottages and huts and shops - walk through and experience how the early miners lived.
The fantastic, jam-packed Museum tells the story of Gwalia and Leonora - including Herbert Hoover, the first Sons of Gwalia Mine Manager and future United States President.
The museum features displays covering the cultural heritage of the Aborigines, Afghans, Italians, Yugoslavians and other cultures who resided in the area.
